  • From its scientific name, Gnetum africanum is a plant from the rainforest of the Congo Basin, of the genus Gnetum. The plant is also known under the name of Nkumu in Gabon, the names of Okok or Eru in Cameroonian gastronomy, of Mfumbua or K oko in Congolese and Central African cuisine or Afang in Nigeria.

    In Cameroonian cuisine these leaves are used to prepare sweet or salty Eru and Eru.

    For Eru, it is served with fufu or gari. This dish is usually eaten by hand.
